Ignore Everyone and 39 other Keys to Creativity.
by Mack on Wednesday, June 24th 2009

Pursuing your dreams is one of the most amazing experiences one can have, in this or any other lifetime. If you can pull it off, it's worth it. Even if you don't end up pulling it off, you'll learn many incredible, magical, valuable things. It's NOT doing it when you know you full well you HAD the opportunity- that hurts FAR more than any failure If you ask any of the elderly things they know now that they wish they knew in the days of their youth, chief among their answers will be about following their passions/dreams when they had the chance. That is not to say that their lives are full of regret, but they always have that "What if" question lingering at the back of their minds that they have to make peace with.

Here is an excellent list I came across from Hugh MacCleod a cartoonist who founded Gaping Void-"cartoons drawn on the back of business cards". A seemingly irrational passion for art that has translated into a fulfilling and successful career and he kept his day job!

In his own words: "It's advice I wish I had when I was in my early 20s that I learned the hard way after many years. I had just finished college and I had a creative bug, but I had no way to make a living doing it. It's addressed to anyone in that position — what do you do if you're working in a cube in some big office building and you want to write a novel? "

You can find more in-depth explanation of this list from his BLOG and his book entitled - Ignore Everybody.
